A re-encounter with the origins

Vins de Pedra

Vins de Pedra is a personal project from Marta Pedra. It is also a re-encounter with her origins. The smell of the winery during the fermentation of the wines, the red hands stained with wine, the frenzied noise of the bottles being labelled … All these sensations are coming back again for this young oenologist. Her great-grandfather was an oenologist from the region of Tarragona. He travelled from winery to winery, tasting some wines from this tank or that barrel. This passion for the vines and wine seems to have been passed down silently from one generation to another, until it re-emerged in Marta.

“The smell of the wine fermenting in the cellar, the red hands stained with wine, the frenzied noise of the bottles being labelled…”

As a child she already felt a wild emotion, while walking between the rows of the vines, when the grapes started to sweeten or the first leaves of the autumn were falling down. Therefore and as times goes along, she has been shaping her way. After she immersed in books of oenology and wine growing, stained her hands in more than one winery from the wine region Conca de Barbera, Marta has accomplished her dream. Her winery is not the most beautiful one, neither the biggest. It also has not the glamour of some others, but it is surely the most wished winery of them all and Vins de Pedra it is called.

“In this small winery Marta takes care of the wines as if they were unique pieces. We do not only refer to the content but also the label, which year after year reflects the artistic work of Victor Pedra, who is Marta’s uncle and godfather”

Victor Pedra

Art and wine merge in Vins de Pedra. The wine cellar icons wear the work of Víctor Pedra, painter, sculptor and Marta’s godfather. Uncle Victor, as she calls him, is an artist by profession and is part of a surrealistic style where a muscular woman is the protagonist. This female figure, La Musa (The Muse), is surrounded by a rich iconography. Birds, horses, harlequins, palm trees … form her world and reinforce her sensuality.

Victor has a reserved character and he fled the big city to Alberola. In this village with four houses at the end of La Noguera River he rediscovers the roots of his family. Surrounded by a barren, dry and hard landscape he creates his work. Victor found his inspiration there. There he has a small studio full of sculptures and paintings. Some are already ready and waiting to be packed into a recognized gallery. At the room Dalmau in the heart of Barcelona, he exposes regularly. His style captivates dealers and profanes alike.

“Today Marta is proud to look at the work of his uncle in the labels of her wines”

Victor’s sympathy for Marta is reciprocal. When she was a child he filled the walls with paintings where the niece was the protagonist. For Easter he sculpted with chocolate and for Christmas he always brought some piece from his latest collection. Perhaps it is true that Victor granddaughter is the muse. Today Marta is proud to look at the work of his uncle in the labels of her wines.
